The Kentucky Humane Society is joining a multi-day effort to get dogs and cats adopted with the help of a national foundation.The Bissell Pet Foundation’s national “Empty the Shelters” event takes place Wednesday through Saturday. Here in Kentucky, the humane society is lowering adoption fees for those days due to support from the foundation.That means adoption fees for dogs will be $25 and $10 for cats one year and older at the Kentucky Humane Society east campus at 1000 Lyndon Lane and the main shelter at 241 Steedly Drive.According to the KHS, this is their first large-scale adoption event since the pandemic began. The organization is not allowing walk-ins and adoption appointments need to be scheduled in advance.Adoption appointments are one hour. Click here to view a list of adoptable cats and adoptable dogs.In addition to adoption fees, adopters are also responsible for paying applicable pet licensing fees. All dogs and cats are spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and have their up-to-date vaccinations.According to the humane society, the Bissell Pet Foundation has helped finding forever homes for more than 18,000 pets in 2020.
