Animal rescuers at Santa Rosa’s Countryside need help themselves

The animal lovers at Countryside Rescue in Santa Rosa aren’t too proud to say that right now their organization itself needs rescue.

Of course, financial fallout from the pandemic shares blame for Countryside Rescue’s current money woes. But manager Amanda Parks said the nonprofit animal rescue and adoption agency struggles mostly because of what happened after its last in-person fundraising event.

Bow Wow Bingo, which happened in February 2020 at Sally Tomatoes in Rohnert Park, looked to be a great success for Countryside Rescue and its event partner, the Santa Rosa-based international dog rescue group Compassion Without Borders.

Killer of Ponce the dog will be able to own animals again someday

The 5th District Court of Appeal has denied a request by prosecutors to reconsider a ruling which would allow Travis Archer, the man who killed Ponce the dog, to own animals again.

The appeals court in a split decision released Dec. 18 struck down a ruling by Circuit Judge Sandra Upchurch prohibiting Archer from ever owning animals again.  

The Attorney General’s Office, which handles appeals of such cases, had filed a motion supported by prosecutors asking for a rehearing on the issue.

Archer’s defense attorney, Aaron Delgado, responded in a text message Friday that he hoped the appeals court’s decision

Rare white kangaroo born at Animal Adventure Park

One of Animal Adventure Park’s red kangaroos gave birth several months ago, and the first look by keepers revealed a white joey, an extremely rare color mutation. The park announced that the baby kangaroo has been named Cosmo.

Red kangaroos are born about the size of a human’s thumbnail, and much of their development takes place in their mother’s pouch, the zoo said in a release. As humans hunker down, animals come out to play

GEORGE TOWN: With humans cooped up in their homes during the Covid-19 pandemic, wild animals are coming out of their habitats and adjusting to a world relatively free of people.

Since the start of the movement control order on Jan 13, popular tourist spots in Penang have been devoid of human movement and in places like Penang Hill, dusky leaf monkeys have been spotted roaming around freely.

Warren County woman charged with animal cruelty after 63 dogs found

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – On Thursday, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip of a puppy mill operation on Whitlock Road in Alvaton.

“Our animal control responded our there and they made contact eventually with the home owner and we were able to discern that there were 63 animals kind of in different areas,” Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower said.

Officials said the 63 dogs that were found were living in unsanitary conditions.
