A lot of changes dropped on the island as we moved into Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 6, as tends to happen, but animals are probably the biggest one: we’ve had NPCs before, but now we’ve got snarling, four-legged NPCs. And, crucially, tameable NPCs. We’ve had to do this for weekly challenges before, but if you need a refresher, let’s check out how to tame animals in Fortnite.

There are a couple of different animals that you can tame here, but the process is mostly the same. You need to get some food for it, throw it on the ground nearby, and then get right up close to it and interact with it while it’s distracted. If you’re successful, you’ll have a dangerous new friend to take with you into battle.

If you’re taming a boar, any sort of vegetable will do. If you’re taming a carnivorous raptor or wolf you’ll need some meat, though any sort of meat will do.

Some tips, however. for one thing, bring a bunch of food and scatter it in a tight area: if the animal finishes your treat before you get a chance to tame it, it will turn hostile again and start attacking you. Also, wolves and raptors are significantly more dangerous than boars, so consider crafting the hunter’s cloak to make sure they don’t start wailing on you before you can drop the food. Raptors also travel in pairs, so make sure the other one doesn’t off you while you’re taming it’s friend.

And those are the basics: it’s a fun new mechanic, and one that you can use for some interesting combat scenarios, particularly now that Raptors are in the mix and are actually pretty dangerous. I’d love to see someone just sort of waltz into the final circle with an army of dinosaurs like some sort of prehistoric druid, but it does seem like it would be an incredibly tricky feat to pull off. Regardless, check back for more guides and info as we continue here.
